Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day and Happy Birthday to Patrick! It's 9:14pm...Sawyer went to sleep at around 7pm and will undoubtedly wake up in a few hours. This means I'm stupid for not sleeping right now. Our trip was fantastic and busy and no, I don't feel like we need a vacation! I take that back. We DO need a vacation but not because of our trip. We had so much fun visiting friends and family. My only regret is not telling people more about Bangkok. People would ask, "So how's Bangkok?" Me being so self-centered, I'd hear, "How do YOU like Bangkok?" And keep in mind that by day 2 of our trip home, I was under the spell of Target...the popcorn/Starbucks aroma that meets you at the door, the dollar aisle, the cheap clothes that I would actually wear, the dizzying rows of American products...and you want to know about Bangkok? Most of those who asked got something along the lines of, "It's great (wahh wahh) but I miss the U.S. (wahh) and even though I'm a stay-at-home mom (wahh) Bangkok is..." And then I'd proceed to tell people how Bangkok sucks.

So, I apologize. I'll try to include some positive and interesting information about what it's like to live here in Bangkok that doesn't always include ME! I can't even begin to tell you what we did on our trip because we did so much. Pat got to play a lot of golf, I did a lot of shopping, Sawyer busied himself with his newfound walking skills. Thank goodness because I had visions of Sawyer crawling to his therapist later in life to complain about my poor parenting skills. It cracks me up the way he learned. Yet another skill that had absolutely nothing to do with me or Patrick. He did it when his little body was ready and this just confirms that people who cling to research and constantly gloat about their babies' achievements and behavior (good and bad) are just a tad ANNOYING! Not that you shouldn't be proud of the little one, it's just, I'm not about to take credit for it or how sweet or demonic my baby is from day to day. Of course this is starting to change as he enters toddlerhood, but enough ranting.

Back to the trip. Above is Sawyer and his new mommies. He shocked us when he reached over from his highchair to start rubbing our server's leg. She said her 2-year-old loves the stockings, too. Our flights were excellent because Pat, my amazing husband, upgraded us to business class for the entire trip. I can't even begin to explain what a difference that makes when traveling with a one-year-old. The extra space and abundance of free alcohol does wonders for moral! While most passengers knew Sawyer by name by the end of the flights, he didn't make enemies this time. We didn't get "the stare" once. This is where you give mommy the most persistently cold stare possible in order to magically quiet her baby down. Usually doesn't do much more than earn the starer a big giant smile from me. We walked the aisles a lot. Sawyer tried to grab the hair of the people in front of us and did try to wake up an old man. Seriously, he was leaning over the aisle waving saying, "Heeeeyyyyyyy!" His friendliness got out of control at times. Again, something I really can't take credit for! I'll try to write more about our trip another time. Reading other people's blogs (which are so great!), I realized that I'm the only one who is writing novels here...that's probably annoying, huh?

NO! I like long entries.

And... talking about your server's leg...

I'm reminded of the time when Perry was quite little and we took him out to a barbecue place. The seating was tight and his highchair was in the main pass-through. A waiter was walking through behind Perry and Perry turned around and saw him... and proceeded to lightly whack the waiter's crotch with his hand.

We were horrified. The waiter sort of jumped away, as you can imagine. And next time he came through held his hands over himself exaggeratedly, as if expecting Perry would try to whack him again.

Kids can be totally embarrassing.

What's more is that when the server when through the first time, he was caring a tray of food over our heads. I thought he was going to drop it on us in his shock. Thankfully he didn't.

I love your long entries too!!! Keep 'em up!
