Happy Birthday King!

Today I ate breakfast and watched Monday night football (on Tuesday morning). I rooted for the Ravens. I am first and foremost a Steelers fan. Half my family and half my husband's family are from Pittsburgh, that's how I can be a Steelers fan even though I'm from S. Fl. After that I'm a Redskins fan. Pat is a Redskins fan and we live in Maryland. After that I'm a Dolphins fan, but more out of pity than loyalty. So, there's really no room for a fourth favorite team. And that is why I am not a Ravens fan. We lived dangerously close to Ravens country in Maryland. However, Pat and his family have lived in Redskin territory long before J.R. donned his first Ravens cheerleader outfit. Today I forgot all my pride, cheered the Ravens on, and watched New England win again. It sucked. For a moment, I thought to myself, "If the Patriots can come back and win this, just maybe I'll be happy for them and respect them and root for them to stay undefeated." Then I saw Tom Brady on the sidelines wearing that wussy boy expression and I just couldn't do it. Why do I dislike that guy so much? I think maybe he just oozes self-awareness, and I can't stand that. Sorry Kerry. He's not worth any more space on my sorry blog anyway. Go Steelers.

Today our maid brought us a tiny yellow polo shirt for Sawyer. She knew I'd been searching for one that was in his size. It has an embroidered Thailand symbol and looks exactly like the ones that Thais wear every Monday - yes, every single Monday. Thailand's king was born on a Monday and Thais believe each day of the week has a color (don't ask me what that's all about). Monday is yellow. I've been meaning to take a picture of the streets on Monday because there is yellow everywhere. It's all to show loyalty to the king, just like the commercials on t.v., the banners and shrines all over the city. It is a bit much compared to what we're used to in the U.S. Hmm...let's start the same thing for our current president - think it would go over well? Okay bad idea. Tomorrow (Wed.) is the king's birthday and everyone will be wearing yellow to celebrate. Lots of Thais won't be going to work and there will be lots of ceremonies. The embassy is closed, too, so we'll have a nice day at home to hang out at the pool or go take pictures of all the yellow.

I read your title and thought, "Gosh, Sawyer's already a year old? Wow, where has the time gone?!" Then when I read your first paragraph I thought you must be some kind of football fanatic (if indeed that was the sport you wrote about) to start your blog with that rather than your son's birthday.

Joke's on me, I guess.
