A List

Since I should be vacuuming I thought it would be the perfect time to write a nice long list.  Makes me feel productive and I can actively be lazy.  Conscious laziness is better than garden-variety laziness.

What Makes a Mom's Heart Sing:

1) Sawyer singing The Carpenters' Sing a Song around our house.

His music teacher has knack for teaching the kids songs that have just enough hint of nostalgia and melancholy to make parents all over the area tear up while doing the dishes.  This man has to know what he's doing to us parents.  It's cruel and fantastic.

2) Hadley telling me I'm potty training.

Yes, ME.  I'm potty training.  If she sees me using the bathroom she tells me what a great job I'm doing.  "You potty training, Mommy!  My so proud of you!"  You're never too old to feel good about using the toilet...?

3) Sawyer's real smile.

We didn't see this much all winter and it was really upsetting.  I will be looking into seasonal affective disorder and getting a few special lights for the coming fall/winter.  Sawyer had a rough time being happy and confident this last 6 months but when the sun came out, things started to change.  It could be coincidence.  Either way, I know his real smile because he actually has 2 goofy dimples above each corner of his mouth.

4) Getting updates on other moms on facebook who have a good sense of humor and positive stories.

I'm not interested in your list of chores you did that day (but bravo on all of that).  I love hearing about the trials and silliness of all my mom friends.  It's good to laugh about this.  My mommy-to-be friends are the best because I think pregnant women are beautiful.  Our date night the other night took a turn when I noticed a preggo in the restaurant.  Pat had to listen to me gushing over how cool hair piled on her head looked, her strong beautiful nose, the way she sat.  I just wanted to get up and go sit next to her and soak it in.

5) Hadley's habit

She has a knitted blanket from grandma which has lots of loose strings sticking out.  Hadley tickles herself with these.  Literally!  She just sits and lightly rubs a string along her hand, neck, cheeks, and there's more.  She lifts her shirt to tickle her belly in a circle.  She lifts the back of her shirt to tickle her back.  It's completely weird.  Sometimes if she's almost asleep at naptime she'll turn to me and "share" by tickling my face.  It's weird but it's really soothing.

6)  Dancing

The kids dance SO often!  They dance with me at Zumba.  They dance when we're in a store and a certain song comes on.  I love that they're fully willing to dance-walk through a festival.

The End.
