Baby Book

Today I tried to upload a video of Sawyer's giggles. It didn't work. I'm not very good at this stuff yet. And I couldn't honestly tell you they were his very first giggles, but they're early ones. While I still plan on completing a baby scrapbook (trying to be crafty), I bought this baby book that has reminders of anecdotes and firsts to record. It has some places to record information that is everyday knowledge now, but could be forgotten later. The firsts really get me, though. They make me feel like a space cadet mommy! One page has a place for you to describe the moment your baby smiled for the first time. As if there was one distinct moment. There really wasn't. He had the mild smiles that are sometimes attributed to gas. He had his middle of sleep huge smiles that took up his entire face and seemed very genuine...still, they were in his sleep. Sometimes Sawyer would take a few seconds to run through every facial expression he knew and one of those would be a big gummy smile, but it didn't seem like it was directed at me. Does that count? So I don't know what to write for that page. It's the same with giggles. I could probably narrow the first giggles down to a couple of weeks, but not one moment. In the picture above Sawyer was giving little belly laughs for what reason, I have no idea. It doesn't matter. You know how belly laughs are so therapeutic? They make you feel like you would after a nice massage, if only for a couple seconds. Sawyer's laughs actually have a physical affect on me, like I just had a belly laugh myself. Hopefully I don't get sympathy teething pain.

We're interviewing lots of people in search of the Thai Mary Poppins. The last lady was so dishonest, she didn't even use her real name for fear we'd find out about her reputation for being less than spectacular. We found out anyway through someone Pat works with. Using an alias is not very Poppins-like. Besides, her real name will be replaced with "Mr. Belvedere" upon hiring, so it doesn't matter. Hopefully the lady I interviewed today comes up with some good references. If not, we're going to call a maid/nanny service and let them hand-select someone for us for a small fee. Wish us luck!

You are a child of the '80s if you use the name "Mr. Belvedere".
